Cyber Risk and Readiness Report
The Shields Up notice issued by the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine put organizations around the world on notice about the heightened risk of cyberattack activity from one of the most sophisticated nation states and its allies. While some of the Shields Up recommendations focused on new approaches to cyberdefense, many of them focused on the foundational basics of cybersecurity: secure passwords, rapid patching and updating, and properly configuring services to avoid exposing critical assets and data. This report focuses on the question of configuration, looking at when and why organizations leave ports and protocols exposed to the internet, the prevalence of these exposures, and how organizations can minimize both disruption and risk.
